Knaggs Guitars Kenai Steckel T/S “Candy” #2 in Vintage CherryBurst
Knaggs Kenai Eric Steckel T/S “Candy”
On his recent Australian tour Eric Steckel met a collector with an extensive collection of Vintage guitars who became a huge fan of Eric and his ES Signature models. Among Paul’s collection is a 60s Vintage Cherry Burst named “Candy”. The guitar has a 60s body with a 59 neck, which was replaced shortly after the original buyer got the guitar in 1960 due to neck breakage. After hanging out, getting to know each other and playing guitar, Paul asked Eric if we may be interested in making replicas of Candy but in a Knaggs ES Kenai. We thought that would be a great project.
We made a special run of 11 ES Kenai T/S including custom wound pick-ups by Seymour Duncan and his long-time associate MJ with the exact pick-up readings, hand built by Joe and the team with special, matching relic’ing done with Lukas Fronzoli. They are numbered with Kenai / ES serial# and Candy# on back of headstock and signed by Joe.
Knaggs Kenai Eric Steckel T/S
The Knaggs Kenai T/S Eric Steckel’s signature guitar features a thicker Mahogany body than the standard model Kenai, a Curly Maple carved top with an optional Curly Maple back. Other features include a custom T/S neck carve similar to a fat ’59 shape, Mahogany neck, Macassar Ebony or East Indian Rosewood fretboard with Morning Star inlays, Seymour Duncan pickups, Kluson Revolution tuners, and a TonePros bridge.
Eric Steckel: “The Kenai shape was always gorgeous in my eyes, I loved the lines of it and of course the beautiful headstock shape. Peter Wolf and I started swapping ideas back and forth and the idea of a really thick Kenai with almost no back carve and a super fat 59 style neck was introduced. I loved the sound of this and then we got deeper into the specs and really created a monster of an axe that only weighs 8 pounds but sounds like the fattest singlecut guitar ever made.”
